I’m a mom of four.
My eldest son, Adrian, is non-verbal and autistic. He currently attends a residential school. He’s sweet and lovable, smart and has a great sense of humor. Like most kids with autism, he has behaviors that make life challenging sometimes, funny other times but always interesting.
The girls are twins. Born 19 months after Adrian, they’ve been great peer models for him from the start. The girls adore their brother despite the challenges an autistic sibling sometimes presents.
Our youngest son was born nearly 7 years after Adrian but they’re best buds. It’s been amazing to see Adrian in his role as big brother to the little guy.
My husband and I have been working for years to get Adrian an effective means of communication. We’ve found the products available impossibly expensive, the process to obtain funding exhausting and inefficient and we want to see it changed.
